GUAM, U.S.A. 5-year construction projects hiring Filipino workers in 2011-2015

The US Navy announced it has selected the following seven international construction and engineering companies with offices in Guam that will be given the bulk of the design and construction work for the pending Marine Corps relocation and other military projects in Guam under the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific, over a five-year period.

7 WINNING CONTRACTORS IN GUAM PROJECTS:
1. Guam MACC Builders JV, Honolulu, Hawaii (consists of Webcor, Watts Constructors, Obayashi Corp. of Japan and Healy Tibbitts)
2. Core Tech-AMEC-SKEC LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii; (includes Core Tech International)
3. DCK-ECC Pacific Guam LLC, Clairton, Pa.; (includes DCK Pacific Guam)
4. Tutor Perini Corporation, Sylmar, Calif. (parent company of Black Construction Corp.)
5. CNMS Joint Venture, Honolulu, Hawaii
6. Hensel Phelps-Granite-Traylor Pacific JV, Greeley, Colo.
7. Kiewit-Mortenson Joint Venture, Kapolei, Hawaii

The indefinite-quantity contract, which has a cap of $4 billion, will allow the military to start some projects now and eventually the joint venture projects related to preparation for the transfer of 8,000 U.S. troops and their dependents from Okinawa to Guam.

The military's proposed relocation, scheduled completion in 2014-2015, still is going through a mandatory environmental assessment process before any of those construction projects can begin.

List of Projects include: barracks, dormitories, administrative facilities, communication facilities, school buildings, medical hospitals, dining facilities, recreational facilities, retail facilities, industrial facilities, warehouse facilities, ranges, operational training facilities, roads, streets, bridges, site utilities, infrastructure, waterfront-marine facilities, piers, wharves, dredging, airfields, aviation facilities including hangars, runways and aprons, power plants, and other base development facilities.

It's the largest contract to be awarded in the history of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific, and the largest single contract that will be awarded in connection with the military relocation agreement between the U.S. and Japan.

“We are very excited about the opportunity presented by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Military Realignment Program to move its Okinawa-based forces to Guam,” said Andy Ball, president and CEO of Webcor Builders – one of the winning bidders.

“This huge endeavor is being jointly funded by the U.S. and the Government of Japan, which makes it a very natural fit for a jointly-owned U.S. and Japanese construction companies. We saw this as a good opportunity to contribute our unique expertise, and we are very pleased to participate.”
